[Guide Event] Knowledge is Power: Don't Waste Your Gems!

I've seen far too many people throw away gems due to impatience. In the long run, they come to regret this strategy. Here are some simple rules that will help you build a successful account:

1) Never invest gems into liquid might. Liquid might is anything that can be taken away or destroyed after the investment. For example, upgrading buildings and research will produce might that will never go away, so long as you do not destroy the buildings. A great example of what to avoid is gemming troops. You might boost your might in the short-term with an abundance of troops, but when they ultimately get killed, so does your investment. Generally there will always be someone stronger than you who can kill your troops on a resource tile or throgh an invasion. Thus gemming troops is assuming a substantial risk.

2) Avoid gemming construction and research until you have received all possible helps first. After helps, use your speedups. Each time you receive a help from a guild member, your project time decreases by 1%. Thus you get the greatest benefit if you wait to use your speedups until after exhausting your helps. Once you max out your helps, evaluate your speedups and see what works. Consider your free acceleration point when you get an autofinish opportunity. If you can, try to save your gems and patiently reduce the time down to the free acceleration point. If you insist upon using gems to finish projects (good idea for prize events), always check the price of speedups to reduce your time down to the acceleration point first. For example, if a one hour speedup costs less than finishing your project, and it will get you to your acceleration point, than it is a better decision to purchase the speedup. Other times, the finish task option is cheaper than buying the speedups, so you always want to check both before making a purchase with your gems.

In my opinion, there are three prudent uses for gems:  bravehearts, 24 hour shields and treasure trove investing. Bravehearts are extremely valuable because they allow you to upgrade your heroes, which is in turn beneficial for nearly every facet of the game. If your castle is situated in or near a hive, fort, base or other high target area, then you should consider 24-hour shields. They are a better value than 8-hour shields. Finally, once you have the treasure trove, try to upgrade it as quickly as possible. Avoid 30-day investments until you increase your return via upgrades. A lot can happen in 30 days, and if yo're only getting a small return, you might be better off spending those gems on bravehearts. The hardest investment is the first one. After that, you what to live off dividends. By that I mean take your payout and always invest the maximum back into the trove. Whatever is left is yours to spend. I recommend bravehearts, but you earned those gems with your patience, so spend away, just be smart about it.

Also an important addition is if you are aiming for t4 troops use your spare gems on your special buildings.

I agree with 1 and 2 but that last paragraph is bad imo. All gems should go to trove until it's level 9 and then ALWAYS do 30 day investment. Then after that all gems should go towards the "unique" building materials. But if you're f2p don't count on hitting t4 for a very very long time. Over a year.

I agree that you should never invest your gems on liquid might but I disagree on some stuff.

If you plan to get t4 as a f2p, treasure trove 9 should be your priority. After that, save all gems for the 3 paid buildings and golden hammers needed for lvl 25 buildings. You may want to prioritize battle hall first if you plan to be a rally leader but prison/altar if you plan to be troop support to a rally leader. After the 3 expensive buildings (prison, battle hall, altar), spend your gems on bravehearts to upgrade either your colosseum team(to earn more gems) or your war team. The heroes for your war team and your colosseum team could overlap so you can be efficient in using bravehearts.

If you don't plan to have t4 but support your guild with t3 troops only, then still treasure trove 9 as priority then bravehearts to either support your war team or colosseum team.

Don't need to buy 24-hour shield. Actually, you don't really need to shield for a very long time. Just shelter and fake rally every time. If you have extra RSS, send it to the guild bank. You only invest in shield if your plan is to have a super massive army that no Titan can solo hit you or you can win against a 2.25m rally by yourself. If not, then don't overtrain troops and just have shelter+infirmary capacity as your max army size (you can make it higher risk by making it shelter+infirmary+fake rally size) This will depend on how active you can be though. That way, you never need to shield and never need to waste gems on a shield.

Also always invest on the 30-day trove deposit... It gives you the most amount although it would help if you did some upgrades to maximize it. What do you need your gems for anyways especially in the early stages of the game?
